Privacy Policy

We built this firm on the idea that good systems ask for no attention and create no dependence. We hold our own information the same way. This page explains, in plain terms, what we collect, why, and what we do not do. There is less here than you are used to reading, because we collect less than you are used to giving.

What we collect

When you contact us. The contact form asks for your name, email address, an optional organization, and your message. We record what you send us, along with the standard technical information your browser provides to any website you visit, such as your IP address, which helps us keep the form free of abuse.

When you read the site. We measure traffic with privacy-respecting analytics. It is cookieless and aggregate: it tells us how many people visit, which pages and posts are read, and roughly where visitors come from. It does not set tracking cookies, does not follow you across other sites, and does not build a profile of you. No analytics data is sent to anyone else.

What we do not do

How we use what we collect

Contact submissions are used only to read and respond to your inquiry and to keep the form free of abuse. Aggregate analytics are used only to understand which writing and pages are useful, so we can do more of what helps and less of what does not.

Email

Your message reaches us by email, through a third-party email provider, so it is also handled under that provider’s terms, as with most email anywhere.

How long we keep it

We keep contact messages for as long as we need them to handle your inquiry and any relationship that follows from it, then remove them. Analytics are aggregate and are not tied to you.

Keeping it secure

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold and to limit who can see it.

Your information

If you have contacted us and want to know what we hold, or want it corrected or removed, just ask through the contact form. There is usually little to act on, which is the point.

Children

This site is intended for businesses and the people who run them. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the effective date above.
